Good news this evening for Irish boxing followers come from our National broadcaster, RTÉ.

RTÉ Sport has confirmed that it has secured the rights across all platforms to three major AIBA boxing tournaments in 2015 and 2016: the semi-finals and finals of the 2015 EUBC European Boxing Confederation Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria on 14th & 15th August; the 2015 AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Qatar in October; the 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Kazakhstan in February 2016.
The rights secured by RTÉ include live and deferred access to all bouts, live and catch-up rights (21 Days) to all available bouts on RTÉ Player.

The EUBC European’s 2015 will be broadcast live on RTÉ2 on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th August when Darragh Maloney will be joined by Mick Dowling, Michael Carruth and Bernard Dunne in studio with Hugh Cahill reporting from Bulgaria, while AIBA World Championships 2015 will be available on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player, with full live and highlights schedules to be announced at a later date. Details regarding full live and highlights schedules for the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will also be announced at a later date.

Ryle Nugent, Group Head of Sport, RTÉ said “We are delighted to confirm that RTÉ has secured these boxing rights as part of what is an already substantial schedule of major Irish and international sports events for this year and into 2016. These championships will prove to be of particular interest as we build towards the Rio Olympics which will of course be live and free-to-air for Irish audiences across all RTÉ platforms.”
