READ: Team Persoon’s official WBC complaint following Katie Taylor clash

The letter of complaint sent to the WBC by Delfine Persoon’s team has been made public.

The Belgian lightweight handed over her green belt to Katie Taylor in a big undisputed fight in New York last weekend amidst major controversy.

Ireland’s Taylor emerged victorious on a tight majority decision, a verdict which incensed Persoon and her manager-trainer-promoter-husband Filiep Tampere who stormed from the ring.

Persoon outlined her intent to appeal the following day and an official complaint was lodged during the week.

Penned by Tampere through a translation service, the short letter describes the decision as being “scandalous / outrageous” and notes how a number of commentators had Persoon winning the bout.

Also noted is Team Persoon’s long history with the WBC, with the Flemish fighter boxing for the Mexican organisation’s belts for 10 years.

Calling the result a “shame” for boxing, Tampere requests a direct rematch and hops that the WBC “will consider to support Delfine Persoon in this matter.”
