Quigg: Matchroom should have offered McGuigan the £1.5 million
Scott Quigg has once again placed the blame on the lack of a bout between Carl Frampton and him at the feet of Barry McGuigan.
The Bury fighter has previously made the claim to Sky Sports, but is in America at present and has been telling the American media the same thing.
Team Frampton, Cyclone Promotions and indeed Irish fight legend McGuigan have said they want the fight, but have explained the terms they expect were not met in a public back and fort earlier this year.
Quigg’s promoter Eddie Hearn has said positive talks have taken place re the bout with Frampton’s advisor Al Haymon, but Quigg has again hit out at McGuigan.
“The only obstacle in getting it [the fight with Frampton] made was Barry McGuigan. We offered him 1.5 milliion pounds, which is the equivalent of 2.2 million dollars and he turned that down, or a 60-40 split to the winner. There’s no more fairer than that,” Quigg told Michelle Joy Phelps from Behind the Gloves.
He added, “The reason why that fight did not happen, in my opinion, because the cheque was made to Carl Frampton and not Barry McGuigan.”
