Patrick Hyland got a taste of what it is like to dine at the top of the boxing table when he came to Madison Square Garden to support Matthew Macklin at the weigh ahead of his massive fight with Sergio Martinez and admitted he hopes to gorge himself on such title fights in the future.
‘The Punisher’ was one of a number of Irish sporting stars among Macklin’s entourage as the Irish middleweight tipped the scales at 158lbs at an atmospheric weigh in. The Team Snooki fighter, who has relocated to New York, sampled the atmosphere as a supporter and hopes to one day taste it as a fighter.
“I am down here to support Matthew. I out again on March 12 so this is my last weekend of a big hurrah and hopefully we will be celebrating a world title win,” ’Pajo’ told www.irish-boxing.com.
“Just being here today gets you excited. I cant wait till I am at this level. There is a great buzz about the place. All the people over from Ireland, Amir Khan and more are all here to support Matthew its great. I am really buzzing for when it is my turn,” the Tallaght fighter added before revealing what lies ahead for him.
“I am due a 10 rounder on May 12. After that hopefully I will get some form of title shot. I am looking forward to it anyway.”
