Paddy Barnes debut date confirmed

It has been basically an open secret for weeks, but Queensberry Promotions have tonight confirmed that three-time Olympian Paddy Barnes will debut on the November 5th ‘Homecoming’ card at the Titanic Exhibition Centre.

Belfast’s Barnes turns pro at flyweight, and the 29 year old is looking to be fast-tracked. Already targeting a clash with two-time Olympic conqueror Zou Shiming, Barnes will debut over six rounds next month against a to-be-confirmed opponent.

Barnes turns pro following one of the most decorated amateur careers in Irish boxing history, where he won double Olympic bronze, double Commonwealth gold, and European gold and silver, as well as topping the light flyweight rankings for the 2015 season of the World Series of Boxing.

The card at the 4,500-seater venue next month will be headlined by recent Fight of the Year recipient Jamie Conlan.
