Paddy Barnes comically breaks stool on his return to the ring

Paddy Barnes was floored on his return to the ring today in Lithuania.

The two-time Olympic bronze medalist faced Spain’s Gabriel Escobar in the Socikas Invitational in what was his first competitive fight in over a year – and his first three round bout in eighteen months.

The Belfast man cruised to a unanimous points win, but touched down in between rounds after collapsing through his corner stool.

It is unknown whether the furniture failure came due to shoddy Baltic design, or from Barnes stepping up to 52kg for the tournament.

Always able to laugh at himself, the 29 year old uploaded the hilarious clip to Twitter afterwards.

Following the fall, the stool becomes the second most famous seat in Irish boxing history after the infamous flying stool in the aftermath of Gary O’Sullivan v Anto Fitzgerald
