Ormond loses WBO European belt after being disqualified against Flanagan

Stephen ‘The Rock’ Ormond lost his WBO Lightweight title to Terry Flanagan in Wolverhampton on Saturday night.

After a fight that was extremely close on all the pundits scorecards, Ormond was docked a point in the ninth round round excessive use of the head.

Ormond’s coach Paschal Collins pleaded with the Clondalkin figther to stay cool before the 10th – but again during the round Ormond was seen to use the head and referee Steve Gray disqualified him.

The victor, Terry Flanagan will now go on to fight for the WBO Lightweight title but aftewards said he had no hard feelings towards Ormond and suggested he will offer a rematch should he win the World Title.

Juan ‘Baby Bull’ Diaz will be the most likely opponent for the Manchester fighter with the venue expected to be Las Vegas.
