O’Reilly breezes into quarters in Baku

Portlaoise middleweight, Michael O’Reilly, is now just nine minutes away from guaranteeing himself at least a European Games bronze medal having comprehensively won his last 16 bout today.

22 year old O’Reilly outpointed Emir Sabotic of Montenegro with all three judges scoring the clash 30-27 in favour of the Irishman.

O’Reilly has been tipped to qualify for next year’s Olympic Games and a medal here in Azerbaijan will really prove his one of the best middleweights in the amateur game.

O’Reilly will now box Slovenia’s Aljaz Venko for a medal in the quarter finals on Wednesday at 9:15 Irish time.
