Murt the wait- Lee to hang around till he gets Irish title

Lee Murtagh will trade punches for free in a bid to bank a dream Irish title.

The Leeds based pro registered a points win over four fight novice Darren Cruise in Castlebar last Friday before exclaiming he would do anything to fulfil his Irish title destiny.

The 37 year old his Irish title dream is the fuel that keeps him going and revealed he would keep coming back to fight in Ireland until he buckles the famous green belt around his waist.

“I want to thank Brian Peters for giving me this opportunity because he didn’t have to, he brought me in. I’ve got aspirations to fight for the Irish title, it’s my life. I keep coming over here, I keep fighting. I’ve said it before, I’ll fight for nothing to get an Irish-title fight. That’s what I want. I want to come back here again, this is where it is for me. This is my destiny so to speak,” Murtagh said after career win number 30.

However, despite moving a step closed to realising his domestic dream the light middleweight southpaw wasn’t to happy with how he fought against Roscommon’s Cruise.

“I couldn’t get into my stride to be honest, when I kept closing him down he kept backing away. I heard he was a bit of a wild swinger, when he was swinging I tried to counter. As I tried to counter, he backed off. If was a bit of a double-blank sort of a fight, I wasn’t really happy with it.”
