Martinez pulls out of EBU title Frampton fight
by Jonny Stapleton
Kiko Martinez has pulled out of his eagerly anticipated European title fight with Carl Frampton.
Serious illness to the Spaniard father has been cited as the reason behind the Spaniard withdrawal.
It is at this point unsure as to whether or not Frampton’s September 10 Odyssey bout will be for the EBU strap but rumours of a Frampton Willie Casey European title fight are already gathering pace.
“I have just spoken to Kiko and he has pulled out,” Joe Forbes told www.irish-boxing.com. “Obviously this has to do with his father, who has been very sick and has just had his leg amputated. He is very close with his family and that is the reason after agonising with the problem for a few weeks the decision was made in the last few hours.”
