Macklin weighs over – IBF Title won’t be on the line tonight
Victory over Brian Rose in London tonight will not guarantee Matthew Macklin an IBF World ranking.
The IBF Inter-Continental middleweight title was set to be on the line in ‘Mack The Knife’s’ win or bust clash with the Blackpool native.
Collecting that strap would have secured Macklin a World top 15 ranking, but securing the strap or the ranking are off the cards after after failing the International Boxing Federation’s pre-fight weigh-in.
The 33 year old came in just over the allowed 10 pound re-hydration limit and the red belt will only be on the line for opponent Brian Rose.
Macklin has already challenged current IBF Champion Gennady Golovkin and was stopped by a fighter he has since called a ‘monster’ – and will be solely focused on tonight and claiming victory in a bout he has said he must win if he wants to continue fighting.
