Leo Santa Cruz challenges Frampton – ‘Fight Me!’

With one long-time rival vanquished, it seems like there could be another high profile opponent on the horizon for Carl Frampton [22(14)-0]

Fresh from his dismantling of Kiko Martinez, Leo Santa Cruz [32(18)-0-1] has issued a challenge to the new unified super bantamweight champion.

The Mexican-American broke down Martinez over five rounds to defend his WBA featherweight title at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California on an Al Haymon PBC show

Talk afterwards immediately centred around Frampton, who had unified the WBA and IBF belts with a win over Scott Quigg just hours previously, and ‘El Terremoto’ revealed that it is the fight he wants next..

The three-weight World champ feels that ‘The Jackal’ will make the move 4lbs north to the featherweight division where the “easily made” clash can be made.

Santa Cruz told FightHub that “he [Frampton] wants to move up in weight, I’m ready for him.”

“He’s a tough fighter, right now he’s at the top, he’s one of the best.”

Laying down the gauntlet for the Belfast man, Santa Cruz declared that “I want to challenge him, I’m ready for him, fight me!”
