King of the Celts – Belfast Fight Night RESULTS

Conrad Cummings [16(7)-2(0)-1] reclaimed the WBO European middleweight title tonight in Belfast.

The Tyrone puncher had held the belt last year and reclaimed the vacated strap at the Titanic Exhibition Centre in the headline fight of the ‘King of the Celts’ bill.

Initially due to face former light middleweight world title challenger Brian Rose, Cummings ended up taking on Hungarian late replacement Ferenc Berki.

While his passport did not inspire confidence, the Magyar was a game opponent rather than a journeyman but Cummings would claim a unanimous decision win, dropping Berki in the final round and taking the cards on scorelines of 99-90, 98-91, and a too-close 95-94

In the chief support, in a big statement, Naas lightweight Gary Cully blasted out Tanzanian Muhammed Kambuluta inside a round.

Making a major step-up, both in rounds and opponent, Turf Lodge lightweight Sen McComb looked majorly impressive as he dropped and outpointed Hungarian dangerman Zoltan Szabo 60-53.

Keeping busy, Lenadoon welter Paddy Gallagher [15(9)-4(0)] outpointed the game Fernando Valencia over six, winning every round, while Crumlin light welter Phil Sutcliffe [15(9)-2(1)] returned from career-threatening injuries to drop and outpoint (40-35) Eligio Palacios over four.

Earlier on on the undercard there was a first-round stoppage for Padraig McCrory [6(3)-0], with the Belfast super middleweight finishing Hungarian Gabor Detre in what was his first six rounder, while Belfast lightweight debutant Stephen Webb [1(0)-0] dropped and outpointed Slovak late replacement Rudolf Durica.

Opening the show, having been pulled out of a BBBoC Celtic title fight last month, Dublin cruiser Steve Collins [13(4)-2(0)-1] boxed to a six-round 60-54 points win over tough Pole Pawel Strykowski in what was his first fight back since losing to Steven Ward.
