Katie Taylor: Undisputed Title Fight Against Delfine Persoon
In a recent interview with Sky Sports, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn had a lot to say about many things, including Anthony Joshua’s upcoming fight with Jarrell Miller on June 1st. He also made some interesting revelations about female boxing champ Katie Taylor, and Bonusbets.com takes up the story.
When Joshua and Miller meet in a live Sky Sports Box Office event, you can be sure the crowds across the world will be huge. This pay per view event is set to be one of the biggest ever as they meet in Madison Square Garden. The spot on the undercard for this event is prestigious, to say the least, and Hearn let it slip that Irish champ Taylor could be the one to fill the book with an undisputed title fight against Delfine Persoon.
The fixture will hinge on her performance this Friday as she takes on Rose Volante and the unified world lightweight champion will be looking to take a third world belt when they meet in Philadelphia, another even that is being shown live on Sky Sports. If she wins here, then Hearn has confirmed her victory would be all that is needed to secure the undercard place and take on Persoon. She has a task on her hands though as Brazilian, Volante is a WBO champion who remains undefeated after knocking back two challengers since she took her title in 2017.
Hearn naturally wants this to be a huge event and has stated that he will be delivering a ‘massive fight’ between the two women with WBC champion Persoon a fight that Taylor will want to win as all four of the division’s world titles will be at stake.
“Delfine Persoon actually won at the weekend, impressive stoppage, and if Katie can get past Volante at the weekend, we want to make the undisputed fight on the AJ card at Madison Square Garden. It would just be the most amazing occasion. She’s got a tough fight against Volante. She’s got a good team, is incredibly strong, they are bang up for this fight, all the pressure is on Katie Taylor, but we know she’s a beast. We know she is, in my opinion, pound-for-pound the best female fighter in the world, and her long-time objective was to be the undisputed champion. She’s effectively two fights away from that. That could happen on June 1, if she’s successful on Friday.”
It seems that even fighters as strong as Joshua are a little bit in awe of Katie with the fighter quoted as saying “When I watch her, I learn from her as well. Even as a champion, I watch her and think I need to do something like that. She has her skills and technique down to a tee.”
So, don’t forget to tune in on Friday and see what happens as if Taylor can snatch victory she is headed for one of the biggest fights of her life at the event in June that is shaping up to be phenomenal.
