Katie Taylor takes a swing at RTE over lack of boxing coverage

IRISH boxing legend Katie Taylor has taken a swipe at RTE and the coverage of boxing.

The greatest female on the planet and World renowned Sports star claims the National Broadcaster has been ‘disrespectful’ to a sport Ireland excels in.

Taylor wouldn’t be renowned for speaking out, but the public service broadcasters lack of boxing coverage, a bug bearer amongst boxing fans, has forced her to speak out.

The Olympic gold medal winner didn’t turn up to the RTE Sports Person of the Year awards despite being nominated and speaking to the Irish Independent the five time world champion said,

“I don’t know what we have to do to get the coverage or the support from RTE.

“They seem to always consume rugby and GAA but boxing is our most successful sport …the lack of coverage over the years is very disrespectful.”

“Last year, when the lads’ European championships were on, they (RTE) filmed the semi finals and the finals but when mine came along they were nowhere to be seen,” she said.

“They always want to jump on the bandwagon when the Olympics come around every four years but that’s not good enough.

“We should be getting the support of the national broadcaster. What more do I actually have to do to get that coverage?”
