JoJo Diaz open to Carl Frampton fight
Rising US featherweight JoJo Diaz [21(12)-0] feels that he has served his pro apprenticeship and is now ready for a World title.
The 23 year old claims he will fight any beltholder, including Belfast’s WBA titlist Carl Frampton. Last time out, Diaz blasted away Victor Proa in Los Angeles inside two rounds.
The Golden Boy fighter, ranked #9 by the TBRB, explained that “I would like to fight any champion at my weight class.”
“I’m willing to fight anybody; Vasyl Lomachenko, Leo Santa Cruz, Carl Frampton, and Abner Mares.”
“I’m willing to showcase that I can get in the ring with the best and beat the best.”
However, the 2012 Olympian has his eyes set on the green belt, and admitted that “hopefully I’ll become mandatory for the WBC so I can fight Gary Russell Jr. ”
First, Diaz faces a NABF title defence on the Liam Smith v Canelo undercard in Dallas next month. The youngster views this platform as the perfect place to audition his title credentials, describing how “I know that 126lbs is a stacked division but I want to showcase to everyone September 17th, with all the 100,000 people that are going to be at the AT&T Stadium, that I can be the next World champion.”
