Joe Rea ready to rock next weekend against Chinese contender

All eyes will be focused on Leeds and New York on a big July 30th for home fighters, but there will also be Irish interest in Down Under next Saturday.

Former Prizefighter semi finalist Joe Rea will fight for the forty-fifth time as he takes to the ring in a four round contest.

‘Siucra’ Rea takes on yet another Australian prospect this time in the form of Chinese-born Yong Zang in a Sydney Fight League bout.

‘The Rock’s’  [5(1)-4(2)-1] record doesn’t make for overly impressive reading, but he is undefeated since 2014 and his promoters claim he is  ‘looking to establish himself as a dominant figure in the division’.

32 year old Rea hasn’t won in 23 months and 19 fights, but has lost a number of close decisions and has an abnormal amount of draws on this record, 5, suggesting that he has been a hard done by opponent on more than one occasion.

No doubt the Ballymena middleweight, who unsuccessfully challenged for the New South Wales title last time out, is being brought in to lose on a night that Carl Frampton, Conrad Cummings, Niall Kennedy, Patrick Hyland and Ryan Burnett all fight in either America or England. However, the Ballymena man always has upset potential and with a proper camp might have a chance to end the winless run.
