Jamie Kavanagh to fight a Mad Man on Saturday

Dublin lightweight Jamie Kavanagh [18(9)-1(1)-1] will have to be on his toes on Saturday night to ensure a happy European return. The former Golden Boy starlet fights on the undercard of Frank Buglion’s world title challenge against Fedor Chudinov at London’s SSE Wembley Arena. Here, ‘The Nusiance’ will face ‘Mad Man’ Michael Mooney [8(3)-16(2)] over six rounds.

Over the past eighteen months, Mooney has upset a number of British prospects such as Eddie Jones, Mark Evans, Billy Morgan, and Sam O’Maison. The 30 year old also gave Belfast hot-shot James Fryers a tough fight last year.

While Mooney may be a potential banana skin, 24 year old Kavanagh – especially with his tough U.S. schooling – should be a class above.

Indeed, the fluent Spanish-speaker will be looking forward to getting back into the ring after six months out and saying adiós to any cobwebs and ring rust ahead of a 2016 title charge – and maybe even a showdown with Dublin rival Stephen Ormond.
