Jamie Graham Set to Make Grandad’s Ulster Hall Tales a Reality
Grandpa Tales are set to become a reality for Jamie Graham.
The young Belfast prospect takes to the ring for the second time as a pro when he populates the Conlan Sports and Hammer Boxing Unleashed Card at the Ulster Hall this weekend.
It means stepping through the ropes in a legendary venue his Grandad used to box in with distinction. It’s an atmospheric arena his Grandfather and fellow Ulster Elite Championship winner, Paddy Graham, has told a lot about.
Indeed, such were the stories that the 19-year-old can’t wait for Saturday.
“To be fighting in the Ulster Hall is amazing,” he tells Irish-boxing.com.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. My Granda boxed there plenty of times as a pro and he always spoke about the atmosphere. I’ve also been watching boxing in the Ulster Hall from no age, and it means a lot to me to finally get to box there myself.”
The bout is the Clonard ABC graduate’s second as a pro, having debuted as a teen in the summer.
“My debut was brilliant,” he recalls.
“I got to showcase my boxing ability against a hard and tough opponent,” he adds before stating he didn’t feel he didn’t experience a culture shock in taking off the vest. I didn’t learn anything big in particular. I just made a few silly mistakes that i felt I had to work on for this time round.”
Indeed, the debut fight and having experience of pro boxing seems to have benefited the southpaw.
“This camp feels a lot different. I feel way more relaxed having done it all before.”
Graham fights the always durable Mark Butler on the Conor Quinn-topped bill this Saturday.
“I’m expecting a tricky fight as my opponent is a good mover and very awkward,” he comments before keeping a his prediction short and sweet.
“I predict a KO.”
