Chopper Cahill looking to make Knockout Debut on Celtic Clash 3
Late one night during the Summer, Irish-Boxing.com received a message from Stephen Sharpe.
The Boxing Ireland Promotions man was just home from Bray after meeting up with teenager James Cahill.
“He is sh*t hot,” the excited message read.
Only 19 years old, the Wicklow welterweight has moved into the pro game and is described as having the perfect style for the paid ranks.
Cahill debuts on Saturday night on the ‘Celtic Clash 3: Building Champions’ bill at the National Stadium, and the youngster is raring to go.
Following a tough camp with coach Mark Buckley, Cahill told Irish-Boxing.com that “I’m adapting to it straight away and I’m ready for it.”
“Camp went flying. I’ve a great team behind me and we’re sharp and ready to go. It was totally different from the amateurs, we were working on different things, trying new things for a new game.”
Chopper Cahill debuts against Poland’s Tomasz Goluch [4(2)-8(5)] this weekend. The teenager had a semi-pro fight last year but he admits that Saturday will be completely different
“It has me a bit prepared,” he reasoned, “but this is a different thing, a whole ‘nother level, a much bigger show.”
On his opponent, Cahill has done a bit of homework, and noted how “I’ve seen him, he’s not bad, we’ll see on the night what he’s made of.”
“I want a bit of a show, definitely. I’m looking to stand out, I just want to get the ball rolling.”
“I’m definitely looking for a knockout but whatever way is okay as long as I win.”
