How Irish fighters can keep alive RIO Dream in the European Championships

August’s European Elite Men’s Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria will yield 60 places for October’s AIBA World Elite Men’s Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The top six ranked boxers in each of the ten weight classes in Sofia will qualify for Doha, which is a qualifier for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

The finalists and semi-finalists in Sofia, plus the quarter-finalists that lost to the eventual finalists, will book tickets for Doha from the 41st edition of the European Men’s Elite Championships.

Michael O’Reilly, Brendan Irvine and Sean McComb have already qualified for Doha in the middleweight, light-flyweight and lightweight classes from the recent the European Games.

The Irish squad for the 2015 European Elite Men’s Championships will be confirmed shortly.
