Healy gets French lesson

By Jonny Stapleton

Ciaran Healy was out boxed but not out classed as his bid to gate crash a WBA Inter-Continental super middleweight title fight failed in France last Saturday night.

The 36 year old veteran just couldn’t catch the slick, evasive and cautious Bilel Latreche at Salle Auguste Delaume and ultimately lost out on a points decision.

The home fighter now goes on to fight Morrade Hakkar for the inter continental crown in December, but despite billing his French excursion as a  ‘last chance saloon’ the 36 year old has vowed to fight on.

The domestic renaissance man  was buoyed by the fact he performed well enough on his travels and the two weight Irish Champion wants to continue to fight.

“I boxed ok on Saturday. He was well schooled and the ring was massive. It is the biggest I boxed in. I started ok and caught him early and after that he just kept it long. The longer it went the more frustrated I got because I knew I needed a KO to win. He was good and I’ll take my hat of to him. I pushed him all the way so I am not to disappointed and I’ll be back.,” Healy told www.irish-boxing.com.
