Headline fight for ‘Danger at The Devenish’ confirmed

The headline fight for the Ginley Promotions bill in Belfast this Saturday has been confirmed.

Tonight it has been announced that Derry super bantamweight Tyrone McCullagh [7(4)-0] will face tough and game Ecuadorian Jefferson Vargas [5(0)-6(0)] over eight rounds at The Devenish Complex on the Finaghy Road

The 25 year old South American has been based in Spain for the entirety of his professional career where he has boxed exclusively as the away opponent, claiming a number of wins and having never been stopped, as well as being edged-out on majority-decisions twice.

It will be a step-up in opposition for ‘White Chocolate’ McCullagh as well as his first eight-round contest. The Foylesider last fought in June on the Ryan Burnett v Lee Haskins undercard, opening the show with a four-round win over Jose Aguilar. Scheduled for six once before, the 27 year old has never been past the fourth round.

Also featuring on the card this weekend will be Davey Oliver Joyce, Marco McCullough, Anto Upton, Stevie Collins, Steven Ward, Sean Turner and debutant Gary Cully.

The card was initially due to be co-headlined by McCullagh and Tyrone McKenna, but ‘The Mighty Celt’ has been withdrawn as a precaution due to his big fight with Tommy Coyle on the Matchroom bill in Belfast on Saturday October 21st.
