Geale: I will use Macklin as a stepping stone to World title success
DANIEL Geale claims he will use Matthew Macklin to prove he is indeed the ‘Real Deal’ and as a stepping stone back to World title glory come May 25.
The middleweight duo trade leather in Texas on May 24 and the Australian, who has previously buckled the WBA and IBF straps around his waist is confident a win live on HBO could secure him a clash with either Felix Sturm or Gennady Golovkin- both former Macklin foes.
Three time World title challenger Macklin, who would have jumped at the chance to challenge the Australian before he was dethroned by Darren Barker, enters the fight with a similar view point, but Geale is confident his hand will be raised after a fight with show stopping potential.
“I can’t wait to make my return on HBO and fight Mathew Macklin,” said Geale. “I’m keen to prove I am still one of the best middleweights in the world. Macklin is a very tough opponent who likes to go to war, as do I, our clash of styles could make a fight that steals the show. I will confirm my status as one of the top fighters in the division with a victory. When I win, I still want to fight Golovkin, if he comes back to 160, or the winner of Sturm vs. Solomon.”
