Cyclone Promotions expect to make announcement regarding two weight World champion Carl Frampton’s next move over the next couple of days.
‘The Jackal’ has been heavily been linked with a Leo Santa Cruz rematch since he became the first man to defeat the Mexican-American in July.
Both fighters want the clash and considering boths links to Al Haymon it looked easy to make, but date and venue issues seemed to put back an official return announcement.
However, speaking to the BBC over the weekend, Frampton’s coach Shane McGuigan, who also looks after Coalisland’s Conrad Cummings, is confident the fight will be announced over the coming week.
“We will potentially have an announcement about Carl Frampton’s next fight before the week is out, or early next week. It is nearly done and I’m excited,”
“It is looking like the Leo Santa Cruz rematch and that’s a great fight for us.”
McGuigan has also revealed a unification fight with Lee Selby could await the undefeated WBA featherweight champion if he defeats Santa Cruz in the return, which now looks more likely to play out post Christmas.
“I would like that fight in the summer and Carl would as well,” added McGuigan.
“Lee sees the big money sign over Carl’s head – he’s an elite fighter, and has been recognised in the United States as one of the top dogs.”
“Lee is a warrior and wants to prove himself against Carl Frampton and I know he would take the fight straight away.”
