Four Team Ireland boxers have won through to the quarter-final stage, and another to the Last 16, on the second day of the European U17 Championship boxing in Budva.

Macie Duffy, Saoirse Donnelly, Maicey Field and Daisy Kieran are all just one win away from a European medal, while Pat Stokes progresses with a day two win.

Macie Duffy O’Connor has won through to the quarter finals. She was the 5-0 winner over Aydan Ismayilli of Azerbaijan in the Last 16 48kg contest, scored 30:27; 30:27; 30:27; 30:27; 30:27. Duffy O’Connor boxes for a medal on Wednesday, against the winner of the contest between Georgia and Scotland.

Saoirse Donnelly is in to the 54kg medal stages, with a unanimous decision win over Croatia’s Ema Halajko, scored 30:27; 29:28; 30:27; 29:28; 29:28. She boxes for a medal in Wednesday’s Afternoon Session, against the winner of today’s bout between Italy and Spain.

63kg Maicey Field has clamed a QF berth, following a dominant, confident performance against Croatia’s Mia Aleksa, in which she forced standing counts in rounds 2 and 3, winning by RSC3. Field will box for a medal against Turkey’s Sudenur Yalgettekin in Wednesday’s Afternoon Session.

Daisy Kieran left it all in the ring in the hunt for a quarter final spot. The Team Co-Captain contested against Russia’s Agata Dedova, and lost the first round on all cards. She battled back in rounds 2 and 3, and claimed a 4-0 win. Judges scored the bout 29:27; 29:27; 29:27; 28:28; 29:27, reflecting a point deduction for holding for Dedova. Keiran back in action in Thursday’s Evening Session.

Pat Stokes has opened his campaign with a bang. He dominated Scotland’s Charlie Bonnar througout their 50kg Last 16 contest, and came away with the unanimous decision win. Judges scored the bout 27:30; 27:30; 27:30; 27:30; 24:30. Stoke will take on Czechia’s Vojtech Halinar for a place in the Quarter Finals in Tuesday’s Afternoon Session.

A valiant performance by Lucie Prentice in Budva, but not to be on this occasion. The Banbridge BC boxer contested her 50kg Last 16 contest against England’s Lilly Green, which ended in an RSC2 in favour of the English boxer.
