European Championships will act as Olympic qualifiers

Europe and Ireland’s male boxers will have to qualify for the qualifiers for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
For the first time, the 2015 EUBC European Elite Men’s Championships will act as as qualifier for the AIBA World Elite Men’s Championships, which will act as a qualifier for Rio 2016.

Ninety qualifying berths  – nine in each of the ten weight categories – for Qatar will be up for grabs at the 2015 EUBC European Men’s Championships at a host country to be confirmed.
Ireland finished in second place (twice) and in third position in the medals table at the last three European Championships. Paddy Barnes, Joe Ward, Ray Moylette, John Joe Nevin and Jason Quigley won gold at the three tournaments.

The 2015 EUBC European Men’s Championships will also act as a qualifier for the inaugural 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan. The recent EUBC European Women’s Championships was a qualifier for Baku.
