EBU title shot for Hyland or Casey

A shot at the European title once held by Bernard Dunne is in the pipeline for either Paulie Hyland or Willie Casey.
Brian Peters won the purse bids to promote Kiko Martinez and Arsen Martirosyans clash for the EBU super bantamweight title. And the Meath man looks set to offer either Prizefighter winner Casey or EU champion Hyland a chance to dethrone the winner.
The EBU confirmed that, despite inheriting Simone Maludrottu as a mandatory challenger, the winner of the continental clash, which could be held in Ireland or Spain, could make a voluntary defence and its possible Peters could be promotionally involved.
Promoter Peters himself confirmed that he would be entitled to offer Dubliner Hyland or Limerick man Casey the winner later this year.
“I would be in a position to match the winner with either Casey or Hyland,” Peters said.
The youngest of an Irish champion brotherly trio, Hyland looks better positioned for a continental title shot, but Big Bang Casey has taken the super bantamweight world by storm via a sensational Prizefighter victory.
Stylist, Hyland, whose brother Patrick has been previously linked with Martinez, the man who took just 86 second to remove Dunne of the EBU belt, is reigning EU champion and is ranked 6 in the EBU ratings.
Casey on the other hand is absent form the EBU rankings but has amassed a name for himself across Europe with his abrasive display in Prizefighter.
Peters will have to make a decision but either way a EBU title fight is on the cards for one for one of the two Irish fighters.
Meanwhile clan Hyland could break another boxing record if Patrick Pajo Hyland defeats Gianpiero Contestabile to collect the EU Featherweight title.
If the Irish champion defeats the Italian, and his younger brother Paul successful defends his strap against tough French man Jerome Thomas, they will become the first ever brothers to be EU champions at the same time.
Both EU title clashes are subject for purse bids later next week.
