Donnelly and Coyle make it nine medals for Northern Ireland

STEVEN Donnelly and Connor Coyle rounded off the perfect day for Northern Ireland with two Commonwealth Games wins this afternoon.

The pair registered quarterfinal victories in Glasgow to push Team Northern Ireland’s medal tally to nine bronze.

Donnelly won all three rounds against tough Canadian Custio Clayton to progress to the semi final of the Games.

Donnelly was up against the highest-ranked fighter in the division but the Canadian, but after a tight opening dominated the final two stanzas.

Derry middleweight Coyle also produced a superb performance and dominated South African Lusizi.

Coyle took the second stanza by a 10-8 score card landing some big left hooks on the mouthy South African.

His opponent was in haymaker mode in the final round but Coyle picked his shots and closed the fight out in classy fashion.
