Dominant win for Jono Carroll in Scotland

Jono Carroll continued his unbeaten streak with a comfortable win in Scotland this evening.

The super featherweight took on Juan Luis Gonzalez at the Paisley Lagoon Leisure Centre just outside Glasgow, live on Boxnation, and was dominant throughout an eight-round points win.

Gonzalez had challenged for the Spanish 126lbs title earlier this year, but was dismantled by a sharp looking Carroll.

Carroll began quick, peppering the Spaniard with short, sharp bursts early.

The Dunshaughlin boxer began to invite Gonzalez on in the second, countering well.

Carroll stepped it up in the final minute of an even enough third, landing a big left hook that shook his Iberian opponent.

King Kong began to walk down Gonzalez in the fourth. and was landing with greater frequency as his opponent began to become more ragged.

The combinations began to flow as the bout entered its second half, with Gonzalez increasingly retreating into his shell and allowing Carroll time to work,

A quiet sixth saw Carroll clipped in the closing exchanges, the only sign of any trouble all fight, but he would box well off the ropes.

Carroll would return to dominance in the seventh, driving Gonzalez back with some hurtful looking shots.

The Finglas-born fighter would go searching for the knockout in the eighth and final round. Gonzalez would initially tuck up and withstand the onslaught, before going toe-to-toe for an entertaining final minute.

Going to the referee’s card there was no doubt about the result, and Carroll was handed the win on a scoreline of 79:73.

The win sees Carroll move to 13(1)-0, while Gonzalez drops to 9(3)-4(1).

Carroll will now be enjoy his Christmas and the birth of his first child early next year before returning to the ring in the Spring.
