Distraught Wilton hints at retirement

“It will probably be bust for me now,” said a distraught Luke Wilton after defeat on the Frampton versus Quigg undercard in Manchester on Saturday night.

The Belfast flyweight was comprehensively outpointed by young Matchroom prospect Charlie Edwards in a WBC International silver title fight, that also acted as a British title final eliminator.

Pre-fight Wilton was full of ‘win or bust’ talk and although he may have been talking prematurely after a defeat that left him visibly upset, Wilton hinted at retirement.

“I just couldn’t get going at all. I just couldn’t get out of first gear anyway through the fight. He is a good boxer and a good mover and he gave me a lesson in there to be perfectly honest. I just couldn’t get out of first gear,” ‘Winky’ said post fight.

The former British title challenger hadn’t fought profesionally in 18 months and he may take that into consideration before he makes any official decision.

“I was out of the ring far too long, inactivity may have played a part.
