Cummings: I wanted Melie rematch they didn’t so we move on

Conrad Cummings claims he wants to rematch with Alfredo Meli, but claims the Belfast man’s team are not keen.

Meli is the only blemish on the Cyclone middleweights record- the pair drew in an all action clash in Belfast last year- and Cummings would like to chance to prove he has the beating of the Mac Man.

Cumming’s, who fights Frankie Borg on a TV broadcast show in Wales this weekend, claims he made mistake in the pairs first clash and would like to put them right.

“I learned a lot about myself in that fight. I was top of the bill, in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast and I had jumped from fighting six rounders’ to fighting a ten rounder.

“I dropped Meli in the first round and I should have won, but I guess I have to learn the hard way, it’s all part of the plan,” he said.

Cummings says his team have sought the rematch to no avail.

In fairness Meli had dropped to light middleweight to fight for the Commonwealth title, but had to pull out after he failed a medical on weigh in day.

However, Cummings would still like a return.

“I would like the rematch, but they don’t want it.

“So I have to move on, but I feel I would win the rematch,” Cummings continued.
