Ciaran Healy Still In Training, Wants His Irish Title Back

By Paddy Appleton

Ciaran Healy’s disappointing loss to Welsh Cruiserweight Enzo Maccarinelli has not deterred the Irishman as he hopes to fight again soon.

“I’m back in the gym and back in training, I’d like to put the Maccarinelli loss behind me as soon as possible.”

The loss to former world champion Maccarinelli was perhaps not a surprise however Healy would have hoped for a better night at the office than the one he endured.

The Belfast boxer has said to Irish-Boxing.com that he didn’t underestimate the big-punching Swansea fighter, but that one or two niggles he thought were gone had returned.

“I got a phone call day before the weigh in for Enzo. I didn’t underestimate him; I knew he was a big puncher but I had been sparring with Brian Magee.

“During the sparring I got a bit of an injury to my ribs. I’d thought they had cleared up but obviously not and it didn’t help on the night.”

He was not using injury as an excuse though and concedes that Maccarinelli still has quality, as the old adage goes; form is temporary, class is permanent.

Healy though said that the loss has not disheartened him too much as he knew he was the underdog and there is no shame in losing to a former world champion.

The natural super middleweight told us he would even like a go at that crown domestically or else the chance to get his light-heavy belt back, and if not then a good fight against a fellow Irish fighter, one the fans would like to see.

“I would like to get my Irish title back. I never lost in the ring so that’s something I’d like to correct, or even a crack at the super middleweight belt if the fight was available.”

So Ciaran Healy is not done just yet, he wants another fight soon and he wants one the fans want. Don’t be afraid to let Ciaran know who he should look at taking on next.
