“You can’t really write things like this” – Frampton gutted following freak Gutierrez injury

Carl Frampton [23(14)-1(0)] has expressed his extreme disappointment following the cancellation of his homecoming fight tomorrow night.

The Jackal was due to box Andres Gutierrez [35(25)-1(0)-1] at the SSE Odyssey Arena, live on Channel 5, but the fight was tonight shelved after a freak accident to the Mexican.

Gutierrez slipped and fell in the shower, leaving him with two broken teeth, a major gash on his chin, and a cut nose.

The fight was due to be Frampton’s first in his home city in two and a half years.

Speaking to BBC NI, Frampton outlined how he is “disappointed, gutted, however you want to say it.”

“A freak accident, you can’t really write things like this.”

“I’ve just seen Andres Gutierrez there and for the fighter’s safety there’s absolutely no way that he could box, this is a dangerous sport and I don’t think physically he could be allowed box and he wasn’t.”
