Brotherly Glove – Paddy Donovan backs Edward Donovan to step out of his shadow

Anyone sleeping on Edward Donovan [4(1)-0] is in for a rude awakening warns big brother Paddy Donovan [9(6)-0].

The Top Rank starlet believes his early career success and the noise surrounding his link up with Bob Arum and co may have detracted attention from his talented sibling.

‘The Real Deal’ has already fought on TV shows, has former world champion Andy Lee as his number 1 fan and coach and has most recently been able to post videos of himself sparring heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury.

It’s the kind of spotlight the stylish southpaw believes his talents deserve and the kind of limelight he believes his 22-year-old brother, who was an underage amateur standout and European Schools medal winner, will soon bask in.

Indeed, the older of the fighting siblings thinks his ‘The Dominator’ may just emerge from the long grass and surprise a few people if he fights on the undercard of Eric Donovan’s EBU EU title fight live TG4 tomorrow.

“Edward’s been working really hard. He’s probably been in my shadow a little bit,” Donovan tells Irish-boxing.com.

“He’s finding it hard to get fights. There’s been a lot of camps and a lot of fights called off last minute but he’s been training hard. He’s very professional, doesn’t drink, does everything right and is always in the gym. He’s lying in the high grass right now and we are ready to let him loose so he can show the Irish public just how good he is.

“Edwards is a really good fighter and I think he is underestimated a bit in Ireland right now but soon everyone will see how good he is.”
