Anto Cacace secures big ITV fight

Yesterday it was announced that ITV were going to make their first foray into pay-per-view boxing in the new year, with Chris Eubank Jr stepping up to super middle to face Renold Quinlan at a to-be-confirmed date and venue.

The move is backed by Richard Poxon of Poxon Sports and, in addition to pay-per-view dates, it is intended that ITV will run shows on their free-to-air platform.

The opening up of the market looks set to benefit Irish boxing, with more television opportunities across Sky, BT, ITV, and C5.

One such fighter is BBBoC Celtic champion Anto Cacace [15(7)-0], whom Irish-Boxing.com can confirm will box in Preston on Saturday January 21st, live on ITV4 as part of the first card of the new venture. Chris Eubank Jr will box at a later date.

Not only will he fight live on terrestrial television, ‘The Apache’ will box over ten rounds for a rankings-enhancing intercontinental title.

Belfast’s Cacace had hoped to fight either European champion Guillaume Frenois or British champion Martin J Ward in February, but he and his team have elected to instead jump at a televised bout and intend to then face the winner of the mooted February 4th bout between Ward and Maxi Hughes.
