Andy Lee to fight Miguel Cotto on Dec 13th in Madison Square Garden?

Limerick fighter Andy Lee’s promoter Lou DiBella has began talks to secure him a World Title shot against boxing legend  and  future Hall of Famer Miguel Cotto in Madison Square Garden on December 13th.

DiBella has confirmed that talks have begun with Cotto’s Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and that he sees no reason why the fight can’t be made.

Speaking to ESPN’s Dan Rapael DiBella said “Bob knows we won’t price ourselves out. He knows we want the fight and knows Andy sells a lot of tickets. I really believe you’ll have a similar crowd to what Cotto-Martinez drew, and Andy really wants the fight. Bob and I have worked together on fights before. I’m sure HBO would like Andy as an opponent, and I know the Garden loves the fight. Bob and I talked about it, and he knows we want the fight.

“Andy has wanted the opportunity to fight a legend. If you’re a fighter and you don’t want to fight a future Hall of Famer and the middleweight champion of the world, you’re not a real fighter. Andy Lee is a real fighter. It’s a tremendous fight. Say what you want, but Andy can crack and he showed he can overcome adversity against Jackson.”

Although Lee has been fighting at Light Middleweight of late, a step back up to Middleweight would not trouble the Limerick man.

Cotto, not a natural Middleweight – beat Sergio Martinez recently to capture the WBC Middleweight title. Lee made a massive statement on the undercard of that fight with a knock out of the year contender against John Jackson.
