‘I was bricking’ – Emmet Brennan reveals he was more nervous watching Taylor Bevan than facing him

Emmet Brennan has revealed he was more nervous following Taylor Bevan’s last fight than he expects to be when he shares the ring with the Matchroom man at Croke Park.

The Dublin Olympian will face Bevan on September 5 as part of Katie Taylor’s historic farewell card at Croke Park.

It’s a huge fight and a massive moment in the career of the Hill 16 regular. However, it’s an oppurtuinity he thought he was about to lose at one stage.

The Dublin Docklands graduate thought his place on the bill was hanging in the balance when the Welshman’s unbeaten status was under threat.

Brennan was following Bevan versus Ryszard Lewicki in June and with news the favourite was not having things his own way, he was admits to being a little more than concerned.

“What I understood was the only way I was on September 5th is if Taylor came through that fight,” he tells Irish-boxing.com

“Basically my career was hanging on the hopes of him winning this fight.

“I was looking at the updates on Twitter. Some people were saying he’s losing, some people were saying it’s a draw. Some people were saying it’s tough and he’s just ahead.”

The conflicting reports only added to the tension.

“I was honestly, I was bricking.

“I would never be that nervous being in a fight.

“It was a horrible half an hour. I just couldn’t bring myself to look at it. My career was basically hanging on him winning that fight.”

Eventually, Bevan got the result Brennan desperately needed, clearing the path for the Dublin fighter to finally get the biggest opportunity of his professional career.

Now having gone from cheering a Bevan win, he is plotting the Brit’s downfall.

“I’ve looked at Taylor before and he’s a great fighter, but I’ve seen holes in what he does.

“So this is why I want to fight him. I really, really do think I’m going to beat him.”
