Walsh shocked by Myers EU Championship exit

HUGHIE Myers will have to settle for EU Bronze after he exited the tournament at the semi final stage today.

Myers, who beat 2012 AIBA World Youth champion Oliver Simpson from England on a split decision to reach the final four made a controversial exit at the gloves of Slovakia’a Stefan Mezei.

Ireland’s 49 kg representative’s defeat 3-0 wasn’t without controversy, however  as Irish coach Billy Walsh felt the National Elite finalist was a clear winner.

Speaking after the fight the High Performance boss said,

“He won all three rounds and did all the scoring, I could not see any other result other than a win for us.”
