World title heartbreak for Christina McMahon
Christina McMahon’s nightmare 2016 has been rounded off with the cancellation of her WBA super flyweight title fight next month.
The Monaghan fighter was due to challenge for Linda Laura Lecca’s title on Saturday December 3rd at the National Stadium in Dublin, but has seen the fight date shelved following the Peruvian’s withdrawal for, as of yet, unspecified reasons.
With not enough time to find a suitable replacement opponent, the entire FS Promotions show has been cancelled. Boxers who were also scheduled to appear on the bill included Jay Byrne, Paul Hyland Jr, Joe Fitzpatrick, Bernard Roe, and Carl McDonald.
It caps off a tough year for McMahon who was controversially outpointed by Zulina Munoz in Mexico back in March for the WBC belt, and was embroiled in a lengthy, and still unresolved, battle for justice with the governing body due to a host of improprieties.
42 year old McMahon [7(3)-2(0)] has pledged to continue her hunt for a World title and said that “this is not the end of the journey, just a frustrating situation that will look small in the years to come.”
