World Championships Draw – Who do the Irish face first?

The draw for the 18th AIBA World Championships has been made today in Doha, with the seven-strong Irish team finding out their opponents for amateur boxing’s toughest tournament.

Light flyweight: Brendan Irvine v Nico Hernandez (USA)

Bantamweight: Mick Conlan (c) BYE – fights Robinelson Viera (Brazil) or Jayden Hansen (Australia) in Round 2

Lightweight: Sean McComb v Lindozo Garza (Mexico)

Light welterweight: Dean Walsh v Luis Diaz (Venezuela)

Welterweight: Adam Nolan v Eimantas Stanionis (Lithuania)

Middleweight: Michael O’Reilly v Valerii Kharlamov (Ukraine)

Light heavyweight: Joe Ward BYE – fights Oleksandr Khyzhniak (Ukraine) or Abdelhafid Benchabla (Algeria) in Round 2

Boxing begins tomorrow at the 7,700 seater Ali Bin Hamas Al Attiya Arena-Al Sadd.
