Wicklow teen to turn professional
Another Wicklow boxer is to enter the pro ranks in the near future.
Bray fighter James Cahill is to ditch the vest and start punching for pay at the tender age of 19.
The light middleweight southpaw fights out of St Teresa’s, where he is a stablemate of fellow pro newcomer Regan Buckley.
Over the past year Cahill has been a regular in the National Stadium, where he competed in the Under 18, Under 22, and Senior (Intermediate) Championships.
Cahill also has experience of fighting over a longer format having stepped in at a week’s notice to defeat England’s John Caney over six two-minute rounds on the inaugural Semi-Pro Boxing Ireland back in November.
