Last month we were engrossed by the World Youth Championships in St Peterburg. The nine-strong Irish team brought home two medals from Russia, with light welterweight Gabriel Dossen and middleweight Michael Nevin (left of photo) both winning bronze.
There was a real big-tournament feel for Ireland, with a three consecutive training camps taking them from Dublin to Belfast and on to Moscow. The tournament was also given coverage by the official Olympic channel. One thing we did miss however was the following video that sought to introduce some of the fighters in the tournament.
Titled ‘The Glove Challenge,’ it tested fighters from Ireland, Britain, India, and Russia, to perform tasks whilst wearing boxing gloves.
Competing against each other, Michael Nevin and Limerick super heavyweight Kevin Sheehy (right of photo) went head-to-head in writing their own names, disassembling Russian Dolls, and a game of Jenga.
