Dean Byrne versus Peter McDonagh went above and beyond with expectations at the weekend with the fans inside the National Stadium being treated to a fight of the year contender.

In the end it was Galway man McDonagh who emerged victorious after 10 rounds of action that saw him dominate with the jab early before showing tremendous heart as he was dragged into a toe-to-toe battle as the fight wore on – with round eight being the stand-out stanza

It was a third Irish title for McDonagh who now really is ‘The Cinderella Man.’
