‘Did they think I was s&*t!’ McKenna on most improved tag

He questions it at first, but Tyrone McKenna is happy to be constantly labelled ‘Ireland’s most improved boxer’.

A host of MTK punchers and even fighters outside his stable have not been shy about letting the media know how much the 27 year old has come on over the last 12-18 months, nor have they been slow about predicting the rangy south paw is on the verge of big things.

It seems a common theme pre and post Frank Warren fight nights of late with most fighters taking time to wax lyrical about the Belfast fighter.

Victories over unbeaten Dubs Sean Creagh and Jake Hanney have played a part in the increased confidence of those around him and also raised McKenna’s profile.

McKenna does at times question the ‘most improved’ label, but claims he does himself feel he has made massive strides in the game.

“Sometimes I think ‘do they think I was shit’!!,” McKenna said.

“But it is a big compliment to say I was massively improved. I do feel it myself. I feel my power has come on. I am sitting down on my shots better and working with Danny Vaughan has helped me. I have the hands up now and I put together better combinations. I have also dropped down a weight too.”
