Title opportunity for Anto Upton

Belfast’s Anto Upton [12(4)-1(0)] has been handed a title shot, and a chance to erase the memory of his sole professional loss.

It has been announced that the youngest brother of the Upton Clan will face Wallsall’s Luke Paddock for the BBBoC English light welterweight title on Sunday June 24th at the Chase Leisure Centre in Cannock, Staffordshire.

The BBBoC have declared the belt vacant following champion Joe Hughes’s unsuccesful WBO Inter-Continental title challenge against Jack Catterall last month.

The winner of next month’s bout is mandated the face Hughes in their first defence.

This will be Upton’s second shot at securing the belt having lost to Hughes last December in a clash which saw the Ricky Hatton-trained fighter hit the deck twice but give a good account of himself in a points loss (97-91, 97-93, 96-93).

24 year old Paddock [14(1)-1(0)] is a former BBBoC Midlands Area champion and will have home advantage for the scrap.
