Thomond disappointment for Fitzpatrick

The postponement and change of venue of Andy Lee’s Thomond showdown with Billy Joe Saunders is not just a huge disappointment for the Limerick man.

It has emerged that young Belfast lightweight, Joe Fitzpatrick [2(2)-0)] was also due to appear on the September 19th mega-card.

The hugely popular 2014Commonwealth Games silver medalist would have brought a huge following South from the Titanic City.

This, of course, will now not happen – and the rescheduled date for Lee-Saunders in Manchester on October 10th would appear to be to near to the Mark Dunlop-organised dinner show in Belfast’s Europa Hotel on October 17th that Fitzpatrick is slated to appear on.

Fitzpatrick, who is promoted by Warren and managed by Dunlop, should still take heart from the fact that he was chosen to appear on the ill-fated Limerick show – and ‘The Dragon’ certainly has a very bright future ahead of him.
