The Secret Is Out: Bayo Alabi Has Tallaght Stadium in His Sights
Bayo Alabi shared an outdoor stadium dream after letting the secret out in the National Stadium on Saturday night.
The fighter, who carries the ‘The Secret’ ring moniker, claimed a high-profile victory on the Judgement Day card.
The BUI Celtic champion shone after stepping into the domestic spotlight for the first time and announced himself to the wider audience by defeating competitive and combative Connor Kerr at the home of Irish boxing.
It was a huge win for the Tallaght natives career, although he was keen to point out it’s far from the pinnacle.
The Unit 3-trained featherweight has his sights set on bigger names, bigger prizes and even bigger venues.
“What about Tallaght Stadium, where Shamrock Rovers play,” the Jobstown man said.
“I’d love to fight there one day. It would be massive. It would be nice to bring the community of Tallaght together and even help Tallaght businesses out,” he adds.
“It would be nice to have Tallaght looked upon and talked about for good things. It would be massive, and to be the first person to do that would be amazing.”
Venturing outdoors would be something JB Promotions would be willing to do if viable, meaning Alabi will need a little more exposure and building to live that dream.
A repeat of the attention-grabbing bad-blood build-up he had with Kerr would certainly get fans looking forward to his fights and boost his profile.
Although speaking after the tense, entertaining bout, Alabi revealed pre-fight verbal exchanges may hamper the exchanges that matter once you climb through the ropes.
“There were just times I was rushing things,” he continued. “Maybe that’s because of things that had been said before the fight.
“I think I showed a lack of experience in that regard. You could see there was a big skill difference, but there were just times I was rushing things.”
“I don’t think I was great today, but I just showed my level.”
The Westside graduate was pleased to get the victory but felt the contest could have been stopped earlier, claiming the referee should have intervened.
“I thought the stoppage should have been called,” Alabi said. “It was evident. I don’t know, I feel like the ref was a bit against me. But look, listen, it is what it is.”
“There was a big skill difference and it was clear. On the front foot, I feel like I can be a front-foot terror, man,” he adds.
