Team Ireland arrive in Rio
The Irish male Olympic squad arrived in Rio, host city for the 2016 Olympics, in the early hours of yesterday morning after a long journey from Dublin via Frankfurt.
The panel had a light session among themselves and will begin a training camp with the host nation and Billy Walsh’s USA today before moving into the Olympic village on July 29th. Men’s boxing begins on August 6th.

Katie Taylor joins the squad on August 2nd. Women’s boxing is not scheduled to begin until August 12th.
286 boxers – 250 males and 36 females – will compete at this year’s Olympics.
Rio is four hours behind Ireland.
