Success in Sydney for Super Darragh Foley

Blanchardstown light welter Darragh Foley was brought the distance this morning Down Under.

The big-punching Irishman was defending his WBA Oceania title for the first time, taking on Argentinian Sergio Eduardo Gonzalez.

A clash of southpaws, the mesh of styles lead to a somewhat scrappy fight, and the tricky 38 year old South American was well versed in the dark arts of the sport. Foley pressed the action throughout, and landed the cleaner and more numerous shots in a sometimes ugly affair.

After ten rounds of action Foley was declared the winner, with the scorecards reading 97-94, 98-92, 100-90.

The hard-fought win sees the Dubliner move to 10(7)-2(0), while the game Gonzalez drops to 31(15)-21(10)-4.

Foley will hope that the win elevates him into the governing body’s Top 15 as he targets a big 2017 and a potential clash with highly-rated Filipino Czar Amonsot.
